My little town is part Mayberry, part Cabot Cove, and all heart. The people are friendly, the streets are clean, and we love good food! We host an amazing event called Beatles At the Ridge each September (more on that in a later blog). Our residents take pride in the success of our city.
There are a number of local personalities I could highlight in today’s blog, but Mel Fender, owner and proprietor of Chicken Shack Produce and Catering is the top pick of the week. In addition to catering food, she caters to the hearts (and appetites) of every person she serves–which includes Northeast Arkansas and surrounding areas.
Her most recent enterprise involves her special food truck laden with delectable goodies that she brings to town twice a week (Tuesday and Thursday). From her location, she sells homemade meals and desserts to the masses. Well…we only have around 4000 in our little metropolis, but still…
I’m not sure Mel knows how much people appreciate her and what her business has done for households. Her devotion allows families to focus on each other rather than the time consuming rush of meal prep and cleanup. She greets each customer with warmth and graciousness and makes certain her servings are generous and well-prepared. Most importantly, she makes a point of learning the names of her customers and goes out of her way to make each feel welcome. She makes people feel appreciated– as though we are her guests sitting down to a meal at her home.
She is a blessing to this little corner of the world. While many “fast food” operators are preoccupied and distanced from their customers, Mel and her amazing staff take pride in preparing slow-cooked, home-cooked, well-cooked food. Tiny details are a priority, and her public adores her and her staff for their hard work and devotion.
For a glimpse of the kind of food she serves, I’ve included tonight’s menu.
Bacon wrapped Pork Tenderloin
Green Bean Casserole
Mac & Cheese
Blackberry and Apple Cobbler
If you follow her on Facebook at Mel Fender Chicken Shack, you’ll see her amazing offerings. Thank you, Mel Fender for adding flavor to our week and heart to our town.
